BAKO has finalised a deal with food waste fighting app Too Good To Go which will provide free sign-up for all BAKO customers.

Too Good To Go is an anti-food waste app that lets people buy surplus food from local food businesses to stop it going to waste. Consumers download the app and search for nearby bakeries, restaurants, retailers and producers with unsold food. App users then purchase a ‘Magic Bag’ and collect it at an allotted time.

This deal aims to get independent bakers across the UK involved with the app in an attempt to reduce bakery related food waste across the country.

BAKO also announced that it will be donating £25 for every sign-up to food redistribution charity FareShare.

BAKO Commercial Director David Armstrong said: “According to the statistics, one third of all food is wasted and food waste accounts for 10% of all greenhouse gases. That equates to 1.3 billion tonnes of food wasted every year whilst 870 million people go hungry.

“With 44% of all bread currently wasted, bakeries across the UK have a huge opportunity to help tackle this cycle of waste, which is why we are very proud to have partnered with Too Good To Go in providing free access to the scheme for all our customers.”
