Analysis of new insurance policies taken out over the course of three-years shows home baking businesses are showing no signs of crumbling, with the number consistently rising year-on-year.
While 6.9 million people tuned in to watch the GBBO final last year, the UK saw a 53% rise in the number of home baking businesses across the nation, as more Brits rise to the occasion and turn their passion into a livelihood.
The fastest growing region in the last year was South Central England with a 49% increase. Followed closely by Northern Ireland and the Midlands, both recording an increase of 47% between 2020 and 2021. Yet even the capital, as the slowest growing region saw the number of home baking businesses increase by 15%.

In every region we’re seeing a year-on-year increase in the number of home baking and cake maker and decorator businesses, people turning their passion into a business.
“Small businesses are vital to the recovery of the UK economy, so the fact that so many aspiring cake makers are taking the leap is extremely encouraging.
