Dawn Foods has introduced its new Churro Donut Mix to the European market, giving professional bakers and manufacturers a new way to capitalise on one of the bakery sector’s fastest-moving categories.

Designed to combine the crisp exterior and distinctive texture of a churro with the familiar shape and appeal of a cake donut, the mix aims to help bakeries respond to growing consumer demand for products that deliver both novelty and indulgence.

As competition within the sweet bakery market continues to intensify, donuts remain a key area for innovation. Premium flavours, visually striking finishes and social media-friendly creations have transformed the category in recent years, with consumers increasingly seeking products that offer an elevated experience without a premium price tag.

The churro donut concept has already established a following in the US and is now being introduced to European bakers as an opportunity to diversify their ranges and attract customers looking for something different.

Unlike traditional yeast-raised donuts, churro donuts are produced as cake donuts using a dedicated French Cruller-style plunger. The resulting product offers a crispy exterior with a soft, fluffy interior, creating a distinctive eating experience while providing operators with a platform for extensive product variation.

The mix can be finished with classic cinnamon sugar or paired with Dawn’s range of icings, compounds and coatings to create seasonal, premium or signature flavour combinations. This flexibility enables bakeries to refresh their offerings regularly while maintaining production efficiency.

The launch reflects wider consumer trends towards “affordable luxury”, with shoppers increasingly choosing high-quality treats that deliver memorable flavours, textures and visual appeal. Eye-catching bakery products also continue to perform strongly on social media, where visually distinctive creations can help drive customer engagement and encourage repeat purchases.

For manufacturers and retail bakeries, the new mix is designed to support operations across a range of production scales, from artisan businesses through to high-volume manufacturing environments.

Marie Frigo, Dry Category Manager at Dawn Foods EU & AMEAP, said: “Donuts continue to evolve as one of the most creative and commercially attractive bakery categories. Concepts like churro donuts show how familiar formats can be reimagined to bring both innovation and value.”

The launch builds on Dawn Foods’ established donut portfolio, which includes mixes and concentrates for both cake and yeast-raised donuts, alongside fillings, decorations and finishing solutions designed to help bakeries create differentiated products.

The company says customers interested in exploring the new concept can contact their local Dawn Foods representative or distributor to request further information and product samples.
