IBIE 2019 promises visitors an amazing time; the curated show floor destinations will feature education, demonstrations, and a personalised bread making experience!

The International Baking Industry Exposition (IBIE), commonly known as the Baking Expo™ and the Western Hemisphere’s largest baking industry event, provides the largest selection of vendors, resources and education to cater to the specific needs of baking industry professionals and now offers two new state-of-the-art Artisan Marketplaces; Crafted by Puratos and the Bread Bakers Guild of America (BBGA). These interactive, innovative marketplaces will provide personalised and unique experiences for artisan bakers looking to hone their skills, make connections, and grow their businesses as well as wholesale bakers looking to capitalise on this growing trend.

The IBIE Artisan Marketplace Crafted by Puratos will give artisan bakers a comprehensive destination to celebrate the history and art of specialty baked goods. Within the Marketplace, Puratos will feature The Sourdough Experience, which includes hands-on demonstrations and workshops, as well as a virtual tour of, and actual samples from, their Sourdough Library in Belgium, the only library of its kind in the world.

Puratos will also feature their MyBreaD program, offering attendees the opportunity to select their own ingredients for creating a personalised loaf of artisan bread that can be picked up in the Marketplace just hours later. Additionally, a presentation theatre in the space will feature intimate, face-to-face discussions with featured bakers, digital presentations and videos for learning, networking and informal meetings. The European-influenced setting and sidewalk café seating will create a truly immersive atmosphere on the show floor.

Expert-led content

In the IBIE Artisan Marketplace Crafted by Bread Bakers Guild of America, attendees will find a uniquely designed environment inspired by the California Wine Country. The Marketplace will focus on engaging bakers through live demonstrations with a full lineup of expert-led content running every hour from 10:30am - 3:30pm daily throughout the duration of the expo.

“IBIE is committed to showcasing industry trends such as the artisan baking movement by developing show features that provide attendees with an innovative, hands-on experience,” said Joe Turano, IBIE Chair. “We’re particularly excited for these new Artisan Marketplaces because the learning opportunities will enhance attendees’ experience and leave bakers inspired and poised for success.”

The Artisan Marketplaces are just one of the elements at IBIE 2019 designed to support the growth of the artisan and specialty market segment. Attendees will also find a dedicated track of sessions in the IBIEducate program, ranging from AIB International’s presentation on scaling up artisan bakery products, to hands-on workshops taught by Julien Otto from the French Pastry School during the dedicated day of education on Saturday 7th September. 

Additionally, the exhibit hall offers a wide range of opportunities for bakers to discover new equipment and ingredient solutions, establish relationships with key vendors, and meet with suppliers that cater to the artisan baking market.

Interactive experiences

A new experiential attendee offering is the iba Virtual Bakery Tours with enhanced content from IBIE. Remaining true to IBIE’s mission to serve the industry by providing inventive, interactive experiences, this new added-value offering will give attendees the opportunity to explore the world of baking in an engaging and unique way.

With the help of virtual reality glasses and 360° videos, attendees will be able to see right into renowned bakeries from around the world, including Tartine Bakery in San Francisco, Sandholt Bakery in Reykjavik, Joseph Brot in Vienna, and more. iba ( initially launched the virtual reality bakery tours at its 2018 trade fair in Munich, and IBIE will bring the tours to life once again - with enhanced content from the wholesale sector - at this year’s industry event.

“Virtual reality creates a completely immersive experience for IBIE attendees, allowing them to explore top bakeries on a national and international level, without having to board a plane,” said Fred Springer, IBIE Technology Task Force Chair. “Bakery tours have traditionally been highly requested, but understandably, are logistically hard to execute at an event of IBIE’s scale. Thanks to our partnership with iba, this virtual tour allows us to fulfil these requests in an engaging, and interactive way, and with a robust lineup of renowned bakeries and an additional content focused on the industrial sector, this offering will elevate the IBIE experience for all attendees.”

Opportunities to learn

IBIE has announced its largest education program to date and the broadest offering in the industry, with more than 100 sessions. Designed to deliver a fresh, forward-thinking perspective on retail business, marketing, and creativity, IBIEducate offers every role and every segment opportunities to learn. Targeted sessions are designed to allow attendees to gain valuable ideas and techniques to perfect their craft, further their passion, and increase sales.

Additionally, IBIE announces a newly implemented day of learning; Saturday 7th September.

Tailored sessions will provide artisan, cake and retail bakers the curated tools they need to enhance and grow their businesses. The day will offer hands-on workshops taught by Julien Otto from the French Pastry School, and cake decorator certification classes taught by Mike Terry and Bronwen Weber, who has appeared on The Food Network. Other courses include talent management classes with a concentration on acquiring, developing, and retaining staff.

IBIEducate gives attendees more than 100 tailored sessions to participate in during the show - the largest education program IBIE has ever offered, and with a new full day dedicated to learning prior to show opening, IBIE is building on an industry leading offering.”

Inspire creativity

To ensure attendees receive a fresh perspective and gain leading-edge best practices and insights, classes have been broken into specialised tracks to deliver the latest techniques and cutting-edge trends that inspire creativity and increase sales. IBIE’s comprehensive program covers topics across the entire business and baking spectrum including business management and marketing, hands-on cake and pastry decorating, artisan and specialty foods, and much more.

With years of experience and varied backgrounds, each will share best practices and original perspectives, giving attendees collaborative opportunities to address industry challenges and  discover opportunities. The speaker roster includes some of the industry’s leading thought leaders and influencers, including Jorg Amsler, Jory Downer, Emily Ellyn, Ciril Hitz, Nicholas Lodge, Jacquy Pfeiffer, and Peter Yuen.

IBIE is also pleased to support education programs co-located at IBIE including RPIA’s Business of Baking for Beginners workshop, featuring industry leaders like Raul Porto Jr. of Porto’s Bakery Café and other Certified Master Bakers, who share tricks of the trade and Q&A sessions. Learning also continues outside of the classroom in the RBA Bakers Center, presented by Bundy Baking Solutions, which is on the trade show floor and features three stages with demos led by exhibitors and celebrity bakers, including “Cake Boss” Buddy Valastro.
