Pret A Manger launches vegan bakery counter at its Veggie Pret stores

Pret A Manger launches vegan bakery counter at its Veggie Pret stores

Pret A Manger has been on a mission in recent years to provide a one-stop-shop where vegans and vegetarians can find a whole array of grab-and-go lunches, salads, snacks and desserts.

In 2016, the company trialed its first meat-free Veggie Pret store and has since gone on to open a further six stores with seven more set to open this summer.

Now the chain is breaking ground once again as it announces the launch of ‘Veggie Pret’s Vegan Bakery’ in all Veggie Pret shops.

The launch of the all-vegan bakery counters at it stores mean Pret is the first high street food-to-go retailer in the UK to offer an entirely vegan bakery counter.

Baked goods

As well as launching the new vegan bakery counters, Pret will also be overhauling its bakery menu and adding eight new vegan sweet treats to the Veggie Pret menu which will be available for takeaway and delivery from 21 July.

Three new vegan croissants, two vegan brownies, and three vegan muffins will join two existing vegan bakery items, The Very Berry Croissant and the Dark Chocolate & Almond Butter Cookie, making up a counter of ten delicious treats.

Perfect for an indulgent breakfast or mid-morning pick-me-up with a cup of coffee, Pret is adding three marvelous muffins (£2.15) to its menu including a Vegan Raspberry and Coconut Muffin, Vegan Choca Mocha Muffin and the Vegan Banana and Walnut Muffin.

For chocolate lovers, the counter will also be home to the gooey Ultimate Vegan Brownie and The Vegan Hazelnut and Caramel Brownie with roasted hazelnuts and vegan caramel, both priced at £2.50.

Croissants

Earlier this year, Pret launched its first vegan croissant made with margarine and sunflower oil to re-create the buttery, light texture of traditional croissants.

The new range includes a take on a classic ‘butter’ croissant, named The Vegan Plain Croissant (£1.40) and, also The Vegan Almond Croissant (£1.70) and The Vegan Chocolate Croissant (£1.70).

Clare Clough, UK MD of Pret said; “We’re really proud to be the first high street food-to-go retailer to launch a unique concept like this. Expanding Veggie Pret’s offering for our vegan customers has been a huge focus of our food development over the last year and moving to an entire vegan bakery is very much the result of that.

“Our previous vegan bakery products, like the Dark Chocolate & Almond Butter Cookie and The Very Berry Croissant have always been big hits with customers – vegan and non-vegan alike. In the first few weeks of the Very Berry Croissant being on sale, it sold more than double the amount per day of the non-vegan jam croissant it replaced – so we can’t wait to hear what our customers think of these new treats!’
